Barcode 57th Anniversary

Today saw the Barcode's 57th anniversary of it's first patent by Bernard Silver and Norman Woodland.

The original barcode Woodland and Silver invented was comprised of a series of concentric circles rather than the black and white vertical lines we are more familiar with today.

In 1974, a Marsh supermarket in Troy, Ohio, scanned a simple black-and-white striped bar code on a pack of Juicy fruit chewing gum.
Today, barcodes are used in more than 25 industries and in a large variety of places.
